What is SPEEDA SEA Quarterly M&A Report?

 

SPEEDA has launched a quarterly series that summarises Southeast Asia's M&A activity.

Our analysts will provide a quick summary of the most critical M&A, the general trend of the period, before diving deep into the underlying stats, the country-wise breakdown, and the notable deals that have taken place over the previous quarter.

 

Highlights of 4Q '22 M&A activities in SEA

 

    • 4Q’22 M&A activities muted compared to 2021 and 2020, dampened by economic uncertainties and monetary policy adjustments.
    • 4Q'22 Snapshot: Interregional Deals Rose in Fourth Quarter Compared to 3Q'22

Conversely, outbound deals (SEA acquisitions of non-SEA targets) which made up 60% of total transaction value in 3Q'22 – fell to 33 % in 4Q'22, which may reflect an increased optimism and opportunities in the region.

    • Average Deal Value in a Few Industries, Remained Notably Higher than in Other Industries During 4Q'22

Despite the total transaction value being on a downtrend during 4Q'22, deals involving targets in the Technology and Utilities & Renewables industries saw a QoQ uptick during the same period. The mean average EV/EBITDA of deals in the Utilities & Renewables industry also hit 18.52x.
